Stop using IE, download firefox and noscript
http://www.mozilla-europe.org/nl/firefox/
http://noscript.net/getit

noscript prevent java and other plugins to run without your permission.
It's really nice

It's just a matter of time before Firefox will be hacked left right and center. Hackers just haven't bothered much with it yet because not many people use it.

There's a few more reasons why Firefox isn't as attractive as IE for hackers.

It's open source, so the community can help with locating/fixing security holes, this is much more efficient than having a set number of people working with closed source. Once a security hole is found, it's fixed faster than if it were found in IE, most of them are found by community developers who fix them before they report them and supply a patch in the bug-report where they report it.

As mentioned before, IE have kernel access and Firefox don't. This means that you can do a lot more if you manage to get into IE than you can if you get into Firefox.

The ActiveX support in IE is very attractive, once you've gotten your ActiveX controller to execute you've got a lot more options for hacking the computer. Firefox is restricted to javascript, flash and java. Where java is the least secure one, though any insecurity here is shared between IE and Firefox since it's a standalone plugin from Sun.
