This is purely about damage. You won't see any talk of Fear here.

*** The percentile value is the value of the bonus you receive from items (first column). If you have +100 shadow damage and you're using Shadow Bolt (85%), you'll only get +85 shadow damage.

NOTE: This chart is for those that are hardcore into stats, and efficiency. Best to ignor it if you have little interest in it.



*** This is a Damage-Per-Second comparison of +Spell gear vs Talents (+10%). I opted out of doing a chart that listed +Spell damage in intervals of +50,100,150, etc. Instead, I'll only make 1 listing of +200 Spell Damage.

*** Basically this will help you figure out how much +Spell gear you need to make up for these talents. BUT its also important to note that the talents themselves will boost your +Spell gear's damage.

*** This is essentially 2 ways of trying to Balance yourself. You can compare which spells are getting more dps out of +Spell gear, and how much (or little) is required to reach a reasonable goal.

· Very Good: Needing less than +25 Spell Damage to reach +10%
· Good: Needing +50 Spell Damage to reach +10%
· Moderate: Needing +100 Spell Damage to reach +10%
· Bad: Needing +150 Spell Damage to reach +10%
· Very Bad: Needing +200 or more Spell Damage to reach +10%
· ........: Completely rediculous.

Q: When you have Shadow Mastery, Emberstorm, or Mastery Demonology, does that effect your +Spell gear as well?
A: Yes. +10% to your spell damage & Base Damage of the Spell. Shadow Bolt for example only receives 85% Spell gear. Talent will improve that to 94%. However there is a list of spells (mostly dots) which don't have the talents applied to the gear's bonus. These are assumed to be bugs.
Formula: (Base value + Gear) * Talents. This is when it works the way it should.

Q: Can Damage-over-time spells get criticals?
A: Only Improved Drain Mana. Rest can't.

Q: Does Ruin work with all spells that can crit?
A: Yes, even Improved Drain Mana.

Q: Curse of Agony is mentioned a lot in the forums, whats wrong with it?
A: It stops working when out of range, doesn't work on vanished targets, doesn't work when you are dead.

Q: Can you get a lot +Spell damage gear and use low level ranks to save on mana?
A: Not really. Each rank is capped in damage. If a spell can only receive 85% of a bonus, this is also the cap. Base Value X 1.85 will determine the maximum value the spell can go. This is enhanced by 10% with talents. It is not yet confirmed if the highest ranks have a cap. The basic rule of thumb for reaching the cap, is to have the same +Spell Damage as the base value of the spell. If it does 200 damage, you need +200 Spell damage to reach that cap.


Changes: List of spells/talents that have changed/fixed over the patches:
· Conflagrate is now 30 yards (was 20 yards).
· Conflagrate now recieves 100% of Emberstorm's bonus (was 75%)
· Curse of Agony (rank1) now provides proper bonus.
· Curse of Agony now receives +Shadow damage bonus from items and Shadow Mastery.
· Death Coil's timer was increased to 10 minutes.
· Enslave is no longer dispellable.
· Hellfire's damage bonus from now applies to yourself as well.
· Improved Drain Mana is now considered Shadow damage. Isn't resisted by Armor anymore.
· Shadow Mastery (rank4) now provides proper bonus.
· Soul Link works now. Pet takes half of your damage as well as no longer using up pet's mana as well.

Myeah, that list is abit hard too read. Basically, +dmg affects spells as follows:

- our main nuke, shadowbolt (84%) (this is why +dmg is so good on warlocks),
- instacast spells, Shadowburn and Death Coil (43%),
- DoTs (100%) (divided over ticks, and DoTs get dispelled, but still nice),
- Drain Mana, dmg part (100%) (making it an awesome spell with some +dmg gear),
- fire spells get too little (23-46%) to be affected much.

One other rule should be kept in mind. If a spell does damage AND heals the bonus is divided in half (since it works both ways), this affects Siphon Life, Drain Life and Death Coil for instance.

i read this guide to warlocking and found it quite usefull but what do i know, my warlock is lvl 14 and nog getting the love to raise higher atm

Myeah, I don't like the guide too much (at Blizz forum they're abit more harsh about it :)). It's a long piece of text, but it's still abit shallow. Also, it contains numerous small errors and some dubious ideas. His rogue guide is much better, that one was really in-depth. Still, I guess reading someone else's experiences with the class can only be beneficial. :)
